The name “Deoksugung” means “Palace of virtue and longevity” in the spirit of praying for the long-living of Emperor Gojong.

Deoksugung is from Korea’s last dynasty, the Joseon Dynasty (1392 - 1910). It lasted for years in the name of “Gyengungung”. King Gojong expanded the size of it, and during the rule of Emperor Sunjong  the name of the palace changed to “Deoksugung Palace”. However, Korea was colonized by Japan, and under the colonial rule, the palace was converted into a public park by Japan. The scale of it also decreased to one-third its original size, and the number of buildings reduced to just one-tenth.

24 hour open

Korean Culture

In Korea, there is very special culture called, ''24hour Open'' culture.

People around the world almost want to travel Europe.
Usually, shops there close before 9:00.
In the evening, we can see people who relax with their family, friends,..etc) ,closing their shops.

Otherwise, in Korea, almost every shops including restaurants, clothing shops, pc room, Jjimjilbang,,,,etc) are opened until 10:00.
So you can enjoy your shopping or eating or touring Korea even longer at night.
Among others, Pc room, and Jjimjilbang, is really opened for 24 hours.

''pc room'' is where people can use pc paying fee per hour. If you want more information about Seoul touring or other things, and you are not allowed to use mobile Internet, it would be really useful place.

''Jjimjilbang'', is a kind of a public bath which mix a public bath and resort. Traditional public baths are getting unpopular due to the fact that now most people are able to take a hot shower in their own house.

So existing public baths were changed into small resorts. People can enjoy bathing, sauna, massage, watching movie, having a nap in this place .
Of course, they must wear T-shirts and short pants in other places except in a public bath.
Especially women love  Jjimjilbang.
it is very common in Korea and all generations in Korean like using this facility for leisure time.
You would be able to meet various people and learn Korean life style.

Above this, there are many culture factors in Korea.
Pc room and Jimjimbang are not the unusual places that you SHOULD try and enjoy with tour guide.
But, as I mentioned, there are a lot of Korean native culture factors and places that you could understand and enjoy better with tour guides.
Also, there are many great , prepared volunteer tour guide groups.
I'm sure '' YGG tour guides + Korean culture and places + tourists = Great experience for both".
